Common Rehabilitation Done for a Shoulder Injury
Remember: All shoulder injuries are different and the rehabilitation will vary. If the physician provides a protocol, follow it and increase the exercises as directed.
There are 3 phases of healing that occur with an injury. These phases include: Acute injury phase, repair phase, and remodeling phase.
Along with these phase there are 3 main stages of rehabilitation, which include: early, middle, and late stages of rehab. These 3 stages coordinate with the 3 main phases of healing an injury. An athlete’s rehabilitation program should be designed to achieve all 10 objectives of rehabilitation, but not push the athlete too fast throughout their healing phases.
Below are examples of common shoulder rehabilitation exercises that can be organized into a rehab plan based on the injury, progress, sport, and end goal by a certified athletic trainer or health care provider.

REMEMBER: It is very important for the individual to get a proper warm-up before starting rehab, as well as to work with a certified athletic trainer or health care provider while doing these exercises.
It is also important to incorporate a cardio work-out into the rehabilitation plan, so that the athlete is able to keep up their cardiovascular endurance while they are injured.
